The council will decide about the distribution of HUF 1 billion to support Hungarians beyond the borders. The Foreign Ministry claims Elemér Kiss’s appointment has been a good decision while Fidesz says this is just a new trick of the government. Elemér Kiss, lawyer, resigned from his post in 2003 for his affairs suspicious of corruption. His lawyer’s office had commissions from three state companies though Elemér Kiss claimed he did not know about them. Mihály Balla MP (Fidesz) said ’this was just another empty PR-action of the government’, and half of the funds had to be returned immediately to the treasury because of the restrictions. According to well-informed sources only HUF 200 million serves the programme as the rest of the money has been already distributed to pro-government foundations and institutes instead of Hungarians beyond the borders.
