On Friday András Batiz, government spokesman made it clear that the holiday celebrations would be organized again by Nexus Ltd. It is memorable that two years ago because of the fireworks a tow-boat was set to fire and Gellért hill was also damaged by a minor fire. Nexus Ltd spent almost HUF 300 million from the taxpayers’ money to organize the holiday celebrations of March 15 this year.
It is curious that the company was named as winner of the tender only now because Nexus Ltd announced the news in an announcement on June 30. The socialist-liberal government had problems usually with August 20: in 2002 Premier Medgyessy postponed the fireworks because of the flood of the Danube while in 2003 Premier Medgyessy was booed and hissed when before a concert he announced the so-called ’welfare change of regime’ was ended.
