The officers were supposed to investigate in cases of excise abuses. According to a report it was a parliamentary committee which had requested the stopping but it turned out no such request came and the news proved to be false that it was due to the farmers’ demonstrations at that time as there was no such demonstration on that day.
Experts claim it was just a political favour to companies distributing excised products. János Veres, then state secretary of the Ministry of Finance said it was just a suspension of investigations for some hours but no one was found responsible for it ever since.
