The government is going to reduce expenses of the budget by another HUF 150 billion very soon, cutting back mainly the budget of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Defence. The draft of the government edict is ready and is expected to be public after the EP election. Until then the news blackout is complete.
According to Magyar Nemzet informations the Ministry of Finance has suggested restriction measures twice to the cabinet but Premier Medgyessy refused them because the chief election slogan of the Socialists says there will be no restrictions. Economists said to Reuters restrictions were inevitable because otherwise the government could not carry out the medium range development programme sent to the European Committee.
