STRIKE THREAT IN HIGHER EDUCATION

The Trade Union of Employees in Higher Education (FDSZ) threatens with a strike if the budget of higher education will be reduced next year, said László Kis Papp, chairman of the Union, reacting to a piece of news in Magyar Nemzet about a plan of general cuts in higher education while it is uncertain how ELTE University will pay the salary of its employees in the last quarter of the year.

FDSZ promises a radical approach and says the raise of salaries does not reach 2 pc instead of a promised 6 pc. According to recent informations the Ministry of Finance wants to reduce maintenance budgets by 20 pc and each institution of higher education should dismiss 10 pc of its employees to survive the restrictions.
