The Foreign Minister who has been on his post since the election victory of the Hungarian Socialist Party in 2002 will be the commissioner of energy in the European Committee from November. Mr Kovács, who is also chairman of his party, would not give an interview for Magyar Nemzet for two years but now he has given one saying that Hungary has been right when it decided to help in the stabilization of the Iraqi situation with its 300 strong logistic unit, whatever the final verdict be about the real causes of the war.
Mr Kovács recently has taken part in the talks of the new commissioners in Leuven and said in the interview that it was a misunderstanding to claim that the Foreign Ministry has changed its attitude to the United States of America or to the conflict in the Near East.
