It seems the Hungarian Ministry of Defence is unable to keep its promise about a gradually increasing budget. Ferenc Juhász, Minister of Defence said in 2002 that in 2004 1,71 pc of the Hungarian GDP would go for defence. This number would reach 1,76 pc in 2005 while in 2006 1,81 pc. But the Ministry of Defence has approved of a budget for this year where only 1,68 pc of the GDP is planned to use for defence purposes and the new government probably wants further cuts. This means that the arms of the Gripen fighters will not be bought and there will be a long delay in the modernization of the radio communication of the army and there will be no money for the renovation of helicopers and for the purchase of new armoured vehicles.
