Yesterday in Brussels Amelia Torres, spokesperson of the commissioner responsible for economic and monetary affairs announced the second report of the European Commission about the economic results achieved by member states between 2003 and 2005. Hungary shows a limited progress as the government did not reduce the budget deficit of 2004 and the budget for 2005 does not contain measures to keep the demands of the convergence programme. The report suggests that the government liquidate budget deficit until 2008 and criticizes the low budget of research and development. The report of the World Bank also criticizes Hungary for the budget deficit while it states that Poland leads the way in consolidating its financial backgound.
