’You had better not even start at the general elections in 2006’, allegedly this has been advised to Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány by leading left-wing intellectuals in a private discussion. It is said Premier Gyurcsány was motivated to challenge Viktor Orbán to a television debate to prove Orbán could meet his match in him.
According to the informations of Magyar Nemzet the discussion took place three weeks ago attended by pro-government economists and businessmen to evaluate the economic situation of the country and the chances of the Hungarian Socialist Party. László Lengyel, economist has been quoted saying that ’in 2006 there will be one big and three small parties in parliament but the Socialist Party will not be the big one if things so like this’ while György Surányi gave the friendly piece of advice not to start at the next elections at all because the budget problems would end in a certain fall.
Premier Gyurcsány has declared several times that ’the country needs no opposition’ making it clear that the economy of Hungary is on the right track it is only the opposition which tries to discredit the country.
