The daily Magyar Hírlap claims the National Security Service recorded a dialogue between Ildikó Szatmári, suspected of spying and one of the ministers where Mrs Szatmári simply called the minister ’honey’ (’mucuskám’ in Hungarian). Mrs Szatmári denied the charge of spying, she said her connection with Bálint Magyar, Minister of Education and István Hiller, former Minister of Culture had been strictly professional. Mrs Szatmári had been working for the Office of Affairs of Hungarians Beyond the Border (HTMH), too. András Tóth, Minister responsible for National Security said he could not comment the case because it was confidential while Károly Tóth, Socialist Vice Chairman of the parliamentary committee for national security recognized they had been informed ’in general’ about the scandal.
According to hvg.hu Tibor Szatmári, who had been working for the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ), took part in all the confidential discussions affecting all current affairs between RMDSZ and the Hungarian government. In January RMDSZ severed all connections with Tibor Szatmári who is unemployed now. István Hiller, chairman of the Hungarian Socialist Party refuted the allegations in the public television that he had an intimate connection with Ildikó Szatmári, saying 'his types are the blond ladies’ and he had not been alerted by the national security that Mrs Szatmári was working for the Romanian secret service. Though the press speaks about a Romanian married couple, informed sources claim Mrs Szatmári has Hungarian citizenship. Ildikó Szatmári left HTMH after her security screening had been started. András Gálszécsy, who supervised the secret services during the Antall government did not exclude the possibility of members of the Romanian secret service planted in Hungarian government circles.
