SOCIALIST POLITICIAN OF KŐBÁNYA SUSPECTED

The Bureau of Investigation of the Metropolitan Public Prosecutor’s Office has searched the premises of the self-government of Kőbánya district, Budapest and they have seized documents. Csaba Kaszab, deputy mayor of the district (Hungarian Socialist Party) has been heard suspected of corruption.

Csaba Kaszab was chairman of the local investment committe in 2000 and he was one of the members of the board of directors of the local Property Management Holding. According to informed sources HUF 17 million was transferred to the account of Hung-Coop, a deposit company owned by the politician for reconstructions supported by him illegally. Earlier the self-government of Kőbánya had been criticized by the State Audit Office, too, for a loss of HUF half a billion while according to a confidential Socialist background document Mayor Sándor Andó and Csaba Kaszab recruited 5-600 fictitious members for the Socialist Party to confirm their power in the district though they refuted the charge.
