STUDENTS WILL SUE HAVAS’S MEDIA INSTITUTE

The letter of the educational ombudsman has made a storm among students of Budapest Media Institute. Several students, requesting anonymity for fear of repressions, said to Magyar Nemzet they found it scandalous that they had to pay several hundred thousand forints as a tuition fee for a course paid by the state.

After their admission they were promised that for this ’contribution’ they could use videocams and editing equipments and could have videotapes free of charge but the facilities proved scanty. A student said he had no idea where that great sum of money had gone but surely it was not spent for development of the institute as the building was in a deplorable condition and the six computers could not be used because in summer they removed the pirated version of a Word programme without installing a new one. The students consider suing the University of Szeged for the illegally collected ’contributions’. They complained of the almost non-existent self-government of the students which is located in an office room without phone.
