POLITICAL DISCRIMINATION

With the exception of one settlement only pro-government towns get state subsidies for the renovation of hospitals. If the parliament votes the bill, 13 in-patient institutions can receive subsidies for the reconstruction.

The self-governments have applied with 327 requests and the government has approved 72 from among them. The 13 reconstructions will cost an investment of HUF 11.9 billion. The winners of the tender have been pro-government towns, excepting Karcag where the mayor was elected in the colours of Fidesz. The method of distributing state subsidies has been criticized by Fidesz and by the Hungarian Socialist Party, too, and the State Audit Office also expressed its concerns over the chaotic system as mainly in-patient hospitals have been modernized while chronic patients and out-patients have been neglected.
