26 member states of he European Union jointly accepted the declaration on Ukraine, while Hungary alone stood for peace. According to Viktor Orban, the document goes against U.S. President Donald Trump's direction in diplomacy.
The Hungarian prime minister warned that without the United States, Europe must decide whether to finance Ukraine’s war efforts alone. However, all 27 member states, including Hungary, supported strengthening EU defense cooperation, which could enable military investments of up to €800 billion.
"We all want a just and lasting peace, but from a position of strength. This is also in Donald Trump's interest, and if he wants to achieve this, it is only possible with the support of the EU and its member states because certain preconditions must be met," announced Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, at the Thursday evening press conference concluding the extraordinary EU summit.
