"Since last November, the whole world has known that a patriotic president was elected in the United States. Everyone, including Brussels and the European Commission led by Ursula von der Leyen, knew exactly that Donald Trump wants balanced trade relations. Brussels also knew very well that if they did nothing, Washington would impose tariffs," Peter Szijjarto posted on social media.
They knew it, yet they did nothing. Because they are incompetent and, above all, cowardly. Cowards, because for eight years they berated Donald Trump, and now they don’t dare to face him,
Hungary's minister of foreign affairs and trade pointed out.
"Because of the Brussels leadership under von der Leyen, the European economy is taking yet another heavy blow. This leadership has now isolated the European economy from the American market, just as it earlier did with the Chinese economy. And yet, it would have been so simple: just a few measures, just a few gestures would have been enough," the minister added.
We even made a proposal: the European Union should have reduced tariffs on American car imports to Europe from 10 percent to 2.5 percent, as this would have been level with the US tariff on cars manufactured in Europe. It would have been simple, but they didn’t do it,
Peter Szijjarto emphasized.
Brussels bureaucracy is crippling the European economy: sanctions against Russia, tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, and a complete inability to negotiate with the United States.
What Brussels has messed up, we have to fix here in Budapest: we will continue bilateral negotiations with the US administration to ensure that in the coming months, we build the best and most successful Hungarian-American economic cooperation in history,
Peter Szijjarto concluded.
