"Déjà vu. Opposition candidate selection. The big team is back," the Viktor Orban began his post this morning. PM Orban, who is also the President of the ruling Fidesz, welcomed his party's new challengers. "The same left-wing bunch as four years ago. And we know what that means," the Prime Minister said of the just announced opposition Tisza Party candidates.
In his post, he was referring to the fact that four years ago, in the fall of 2021, in preparation for the 2022 elections, the left wing—similar to the current situation—held primary elections for the selection of its candidates, thus deciding who would run in the 106 individual constituencies. After several postponements, Peter Magyar and his colleagues finally announced who they would field next year. They were careful not to take on former left-wing MPs or candidates, but it soon became clear that their candidates are also closely linked to the old left. According to Tisza's promise, supporters will be able to choose from among their candidates who will run against the Fidesz-KDNP candidates next spring.
According to Viktor Orban, if the left wing is in power in Hungary, Brussels will be in control. Ahead of the elections there will be lies, followed by austerity measures, tax increases, unemployment, and chaos.
"They are too left-wing, too Brussels-oriented, and too risky. Why would we put Hungary's fate in their hands?" PM Orban asked rhetorically.
