A headmaster of a Budapest grammar school said their students had an average 85 pc performance both in higher and in mid-level from mathematics which is an unparalleled good result but similar good results were achieved in other subjects, too. The new type of school-leaving exam emphasizes a practical knowledge against an encyclopaedic knowledge expected earlier. Experts are afraid, however, that the tests have been too easy. Károly Baranyi, educational expert claims it can be feared that the general standard of Hungarian education will be lowered and the prestige of knowledge will be lost.
