André Szőts, the world-famous film director and novelist of Hungarian origin criticized the Hungarian film law on Sunday evening at the ceremony of Vox prize. He said the Ministry of Culture had created an unpleasant situation for film makers with the film law valid from April 1 and with its faulty execution plan. ’The present cultural leadership is discrediting Hungary’, said the director. The fate of the film ’Fateless’ also shows that there are troubles with the film law and with the functioning of the Hungarian Motion Picture Public Endowment. According to Mr Szőts a film office should be established, following the French example, to avoid the fight for individual gains. He said because of the astonishing corruption and because István Hiller’s thoughtless behaviour in Cannes he would not propose Hungary as a site for shooting films. André Szőts is in Hungary to shoot parts of his film entitled ’Napoleon’.
