The students of Henrik Havas’s Budapest Media Institute, an extramural department of Szeged University will have to decide until December 10 whether they are willing to pay for state-financed courses from February next year. The other option is to attend free courses though the circular of the university lists a number of advantages in the paying courses, including the benefits of using the technical facilities of the institute and attending special courses.
The students do not even know if they can attend the courses in Budapest or in Szeged as the rector will decide about it after the registration of students. The students of paying courses will receive an extra document about their higher training. The scandal seems to continue: students of the Budapest Media Institute lodged a complaint with the educational ombudsman this spring for the practice of the school collecting tuition fees even for state-financed courses but the rector of the university claimed the practice was legitimate and he offered free courses for the affected students for the next term.
