In her response, Boglarka Illes, called the USAID affair the biggest corruption scandal in the Western world. The state secretary for bilateral relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade stated that the organization has spent billions of dollars to promote American interests abroad and interfere in other countries' internal affairs.
Regarding Hungary, approximately 325 billion forints were allocated for such interventions,
she stated.
She emphasized it was important for the Hungarian government to take action against this and noted that this process has already started with the appointment of a government commissioner dedicated to the issue. The parliamentary group of Fidesz is expected to submit proposals for further tightening measures. She also called it important that, similarly to USAID's support, Brussels sources be revealed, as she believes that any intervention that could influence domestic public life against the will of the Hungarian people must be prevented.
