’In recent years the number of attacks on small shops has increased because criminals expect to get money quickly and easily’, Sándor Orbán, member of the Department of Crime Prevention of the National Police Headquarters said to Magyar Nemzet. Last year 3227 robberies were reported in Hungary, this number is somewhat lower than that of the previous year but half of all robberies are committed in the capital. The small, one-man shops are regarded easy targets while petrol stations are more and more prepared to protect themselves. Pharmacies and small money changers are also on the list of robbers but children and old people are also often attacked for their valuables. Small shops are often robbed by drog addicts and the owners of these shops are unable to emloy guards or install reliable security devices.
