The company is attached to Csaba Czeglédy, former politician of the Hungarian Socialist Party. Tivadar Mihályfi, managing director of the community radio in Szombathely said their station had been working since 1995, without any political bias, still the jury of the tender gave them only one point out of eight in the category of ’experience’ while the left-wing rival bid was given eight points though it started working only this March.
Mr Czeglédy is the owner of one third of Nyugat Média Ltd and he was sentenced to suspended imprisonment in 2003 for tax evasion and other crimes. The national ethic committee of the Hungarian Socialist Party has expelled him recently. Csaba Czeglédy said to Magyar Nemzet the decision had no political motivations while Éva Vékony, press chief of ORTT said the board usually took many aspects into consideration and the expertise of the community radio was questionable as it stopped its broadcasting (due to a decision of ORTT withdrawing the permit of operaration of the station in May.)
