Disadvantaged children are supported by different state subsidies at schools if they demand it from the Ministry of Education. There is a special financial aid for the integrated education of such children, Magyar Nemzet has been informed. It is interesting that the support is higher in the case of Romany minority education if it is not in Hungarian. There are five different subsidies to help disadvantaged children. The annual normative subsidy for integration is HUF 60 000 for each student, the minority education in Hungarian has a norm of HUF 22 500, Romany minority schooling not in Hungarian language has a grant of HUF 45 000 p/a after each pupil.
Mentally lightly retarded children enjoy an exceedingly high subsidy of HUF 324 800 to help their reintegration. The normative support is automatically granted if demanded – there are more than 17 000 pupils who take part in the programme of integration while the programme of talent development supports nearly 32 000 pupils. It is notable that there are several regions where schools do not know about this programme though their conditions are very poor.
