Yesterday Viktor Orbán, chairman of Fidesz in an interview for Hír TV spoke about a derailed change of regime, a luxury left-wing and about the democracy of billionaires. He said he supported the EU-accession of Romania with his vote on a national and moral basis as the large majority of Hungarians in Transylvania also wanted this. The former Prime Minister criticized the ’luxury left-wing’ which wanted to lecture the country on justice though it used off-shore companies for tax evasion while taxing tips and digging up the garden. ’This is a democracy of billionaires which is ruled by economic groups of interest belonging to an inner circle’, Viktor Orbán claimed. He said it turned out that the government led the country in a wrong way, the economy was performing worse, the budget deficit and the state deficit was suffocating Hungary.Referring to Premier Gyurcsány’s announcement about the redistribution of land Viktor Orbán said it was a good idea and he was eagerly expecting the concrete plans. He said he supported the five-year-plan of the pension reform, too, but first it was necessary to remedy the problem of high unemployment. He urged a radical tax reform instead of a vague plan of the distant future. The chairman of Fidesz said the difference between the ’identity campaign’ of the Hungarian Socialist Party and the National Consultations of Fidesz was that the Socialists wanted to convince people about the merits of the government while Fidesz wanted to listen to the opinion of people. He spoke about the work of the so-called village parliaments which was the greatest such movement since the 1930-es. He mentioned Fidesz was considering to conclude an agreement with the Party of Entrepreneurs and the National Union of Farmers’ Circles (MAGOSZ) to represent the interests of small- and medium entrepreneurs and those of the farmers.
