A growing number of videos are circulating on social media, showing that illegal immigrants arriving by boat from Africa have flooded the island. Lampedusa is currently hosting more than ten thousand illegal immigrants, while the island's population is just over six thousand.
The video above shows boats carrying migrants on board as they practically besiege the coast. Wherever the person recording the footage turns his camera, we see boats packed with migrants.
After landing on Italy's shores, the migrants are taken to a closed reception centre, which has now become so overcrowded that local forces have little or no capacity to stop those trying to escape.
Most of the migrants who manage to leave the camp roam around, live homeless on the island's streets, sit in restaurants, and terrorize the island's population.
In addition, not only do they often live on the streets, but they also behave more and more violently. Recently, for example, a journalist was chased off the street, which they practically took control of.
Meanwhile, some illegal immigrants blocked the only public road to the reception center in protest, preventing the authorities from accessing the migrant camp.
