Attila Kulcsár, former managing director of K&H Bank Company has given evidence at the prosecutor’s office against János Bácskai, suspended general director of the anti-mafia centre, László Ferenczi, criminal director of the National Police, Csaba Molnár, former head of the department against money laundering in the centre against organized crime and Csaba Papp, former head of the department against economic crimes, Magyar Nemzet has been informed. Kulcsár needed police contacts for two reasons. It was necessary for him that the police should investigate the report against Károly Szász filed by a private person, and it was also necessary for him that the police should confiscate the incriminating documents before the State Supervision of Financial Institutions (PSZÁF) obtains them in the hope that the police would smooth away the affair.

The series of events started with András Jegesy, lawyer, husband of Mónika Lamperth, Minister of the Interior, who helped Kulcsár in establishing an important police connection. It was probably László Ferenczi who was this person. According to the broker Jegesy and Ferenczi met at a petrol station near Kaposvár and it was from there that the husband of Mónika Lamperth called Kulcsár, giving the mobile phone to Gen. Ferenczi. Jegesy yesterday refuted this charge but it is said the broker’s confession is supported by call lists. In the complicated case Kulcsár’s confession involves several other heads of the police who may have been accomplices of Kulcsár.

According to Ervin Demeter MP (Fidesz) the traces of the bribery case connected with the broker scandal lead to the headquarters of the Hungarian Socialist Party where Attila Kulcsár gave HUF 10 million to Tamás Bálint who has been a member of the party since 2000 and as the political chief adviser of the State Secretary responsible for public acquisitions he received the money in return for a document about PSZÁF. The MP claims that after the investigation is closed it would be useful to set up the parliamentary committee again to examine the broker scandal. Mr Demeter has given a press briefing in front of the Socialist headquarter in Köztársaság square where István Nyakó, spokesman of the Hungarian Socialist Party said it would be politically incorrect to interfere in a case still under way.
