It is possible that after the first turn of the presidential election Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány announces the Socialists will not support Katalin Szili, Socialist sources claim. They say the Hungarian Socialist Party have been trying to collect votes in favour of Katalin Szili from opposition MPs. Magyar Nemzet has been informed Premier Gyurcsány secretly concluded a pact with the Free Democrats to give up Szili’s support after the first turn of the election on Monday. The Prime Minister never has had Szili among his favourites and analysts claim Gyurcsány would not risk a coalition split. László Kuzma MP (Fidesz) said he had been pressed by the Socialist to support Szili which move ’was beyond a sound lobbying’. According to the Internet portal Origo the Socialists try to find supporters for Szili in counties where the Free Democrats have some influence. István Hiller, chairman of the Socialists sticks to the person of Katalin Szili. Fidesz will probably make its vote public after the third round of the election. This is necessary because, as Fidesz deputy chairman Pokorni said, ’the whole presidential election starts to resemble to a horse-market.
