It is still not known if the Hungarian Prime Minister and his British counterpart Tony Blair has struck a deal or not about the sale of Budapest Airport, about the EU subsididies to develop the new EU members and about the reduction of agricultural subsidies in the European Union. One thing is certain: the British press reports are diametrically opposed to Hungarian sources. The British press claims Premier Gyurcsány has offered the reduction of subsidies to Hungary unconditionally though the Prime Minister declared he would not let himself blackmailed. The British EU presidency would reduce the EU budget by 25-30 billion euros and by ten pc the cohesion funds. According to The Guardian the Hungarian Premier thinks a five pc restriction 'imaginable'. On Friday BBC news reported Premier Gyurcsány was ready for a compromise but the Czech, Polish, and Slovakian Premiers refused it, that was why only Tony Blair and Ferenc Gyurcsány gave an official briefing, causing a general astonishment. Zsolt Németh MP (Fidesz), chairman of the parliamentary Foreign Committee said ’Premier Gyurcsány had better represent the Hungarian interests instead of the British ones’ and criticized Premier Gyurcsány for weakening the cooperation of the Visegrád countries.
